Vimeo Introduces Support for Captions and Subtitles
We’re really excited that Vimeo introduced support for captions and multilingual subtitles. Previously, video creators needed to use workarounds, like the captions plugin. Vimeo’s new capabilities simplify the workflow for video creators while increasing accessibility to a broader audience, including people with hearing disabilities and those who want to read along in a different language. Captions increase video engagement, improve comprehension, and make it possible to view the video in sound sensitive environments, like a workplace. The new features also help educational, government, and media users to comply with accessibility laws and internal policies.
How does it work? You can add Vimeo captions or multilingual subtitles in three easy steps that are summarized below.
Step 1 – Submit Your Video for Captioning
From your Vimeo account, download your video and upload it to 3Play Media for captioning and/or translation.
Step 2 – Download Your Completed Captions or Subtitles
From your 3Play Media account, download the WebVTT caption/subtitle format.
Step 3 – Upload Your Captions or Subtitles to Vimeo
In your Vimeo account, upload the captions and subtitle files.
You will see a CC button in the bottom-right- corner of the Vimeo player. Users will be able to turn the captions on/off or switch languages by clicking this button.
