3Play Media and Echo360 Partner to Automate Closed Captioning of Lecture Capture for Section 508 and ADA Compliance in Higher Education

Two leading Education Technology innovators partner to facilitate closed captioning of lecture capture to benefit instructors, students, and accessibility administrators.

Cambridge, MA, October 17, 20113Play Media today announced a partnership with Echo360, the global leader in campus-wide blended learning and lecture capture solutions. Together, they will automate the process of captioning lecture recordings and enable institutions to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act and Sections 508 and 504 of accessibility legislation for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

“Accessibility compliance is a growing concern for many of our customers,” said Kevin Mayo, director of product management for Echo360. “Our integration with 3Play Media provides a streamlined, cost-effective solution that not only satisfies closed captioning requirements, but also makes lectures searchable and navigable – a huge benefit for all users.”

Under the newly created captioning schedule process, Echo360’s EchoSystem will tag a lecture that requires captions. When the lecture is complete, media files will be seamlessly uploaded to the 3Play Media platform for transcription and/or captioning. Once processed, the transcript and captions files are automatically sent back to the EchoSystem. The closed captions are applied within the Section 508-compliant EchoPlayer.

“We’re excited about this opportunity to integrate with a global leader like Echo360 “said Jeremy Barron, President of 3Play Media. “Our transcription technologies coupled with the EchoSystem will allow users to add closed captions to any recorded lecture with a push of a button.”
