3Play Media Launches Social Video Clipping for Online Video
New interactive tool allows users to quickly share clips from videos by highlighting spoken text
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – August 25, 2010 – 3Play Media, an interactive transcription company, announced today that it launched a video clipping feature that allows users to quickly create and share specific portions of a video simply by highlighting the spoken words in the transcript.
3Play Media’s video clipping tool generates a unique link that includes the video start and stop information so that it can be emailed or shared through popular social media outlets, like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, or Delicious. In the fierce pursuit to create the next viral video, content publishers can empower their viewers to share faster and with more relevance than ever before. Rather than sharing a fun or informative video page, users can now point their followers to the exact quote or scene that they want to reference.
“We expect video clipping to be a huge asset for online video publishers. Instead of having to wade through an entire clip, users can now share a specific section of a video, which makes the experience more concentrated and easier to share,” said CJ Johnson, Director of Product and Technology at 3Play Media. “This is analogous to micro-blogging, which established that people often prefer short, relevant bursts of content. And that’s sort of what we’re doing, but for media,” said Johnson.
3Play Media’s clipping tool is an extension of the Interactive Transcript plugin, which is compatible with Brightcove, YouTube, Kaltura, JW Player, FlowPlayer, Vimeo, Blip.tv, and Ooyala. Another plugin feature being introduced is auto-skinning of the interactive transcript plugin, which is an alternative to using one of the preloaded skins or creating a custom skin. Publishers can allow the plugin to automatically adapt its style to match the parent site’s components.
Video clipping is powered by 3Play Media’s state-of-the-art transcription service that produces high quality transcripts that are time-synchronized word for word. These interactive tools enable publishers to leverage the full value of their digital media by making it searchable, more usable, and accessible. 3Play Media’s transcripts can also be used to improve video search engine optimization (SEO) and to make media more accessible for hearing-impaired viewers and in sound-sensitive environments, like a workplace.
