3Play Media Now Offering Captions for iTunes

Now supporting iTunes file formats to further support content publishers

Somerville, Mass. – January 21, 2009 – 3Play Media, a leading provider of cost-effective transcription and video captioning solutions, today announced that they can now support iTunes caption formats. This represents yet another milestone for 3Play Media as they continue to broaden the flexibility of their video captioning product.

iTunes uses a .scc file format, more similar to traditional broadcast television captioning than other web video formats. 3Play Media co-founder, Chris Antunes noted, “While it may not be the most straightforward solution, it was worthwhile development step for us. We can now serve the many organizations turning to iTunes U for their content publishing.” The .scc format can be used for all content on the iTunes platform, making it possible to offer accessibility solutions for the iPod as well.

iTunes recently launched it’s iTunes U portal within the iTunes Store. iTunes U provides educators and non-profit organizations an easier way to organize and publish their multimedia, both podcasts and web videos, for free. This content is then available to any iTunes user for free. “More and more universities are setting up an iTunes U page,” said 3Play Media co-founder, Jeremy Barron. “As educational institutions, they want to be accessible so they started asking about their options. We’re excited to have an iTunes caption solution for them.”

The iTunes caption format will be available from 3Play Media immediately. The .scc file format will be offered at no additional charge from other captioning services.

iTunes U has been especially popular with universities due to the segmented nature of the portal from other content on iTunes. For more information on iTunes U, visit http://itunes.com/itunesu.
