Introducing 3Play Media’s Live Automatic Captioning (Beta) Solution

Updated: April 16, 2021

The 3Play Media Live Automatic Captioning solution allows you to schedule automatic captions for live streaming events. This solution utilizes 3Play’s automated speech recognition (ASR) technology with Speechmatics, and can be implemented through iFrame or Javascript embeds or natively within select video players.

We’re currently integrated with the following video platforms:

How Does Live Automatic Captioning Work?

First, schedule a live event in your video player.

Live integrations logos include YouTube, Zoom, Facebook, and Brightcove.

Next, schedule live captions for that corresponding live event in your 3Play account.

Live module page in the 3Play Account System with scheduling buttons.

Once the event starts streaming, your captions will display directly in the video player or through a Javascript/iFrame embed.

Here’s an example of our live auto captioning in a Zoom webinar:

When the event ends, you can access the transcript in 3Play for editing, upgrade to full transcription, or order more services on the transcript.

Why Use It?

WCAG 2.1 AA references that captions should be provided for all live audio content in synchronized media. 3Play’s solution allows your live events to be more accessible as well as improve viewer engagement and brand recall.

What Are Some Best Practices?

Our solution utilizes automated speech recognition (ASR) for generating captions, so it’s important to keep in mind some best practices before going live:

  • Strong network connection
  • Good audio quality
  • Little to no background noise
  • Single speaker
  • Clear speech and pronunciation

Our recent report on the State of Automatic Speech Recognition provides more information on the latest trends with captioning accuracy using ASR technology.
