How to Choose the Right Closed Captioning Vendor

[Free Guide]

3Play Media provides media accessibility services, such as closed captioning, live captioning, transcription, localization, and audio description. We handle a significant volume of customer files and understand that cyber and security threats are pervasive and affect everyone. That’s why we take caption security extremely seriously and work hard to ensure our customers’ peace of mind knowing that their data is protected. In this article, we will elaborate on our security policies and measures to maintain rigorous security standards and safeguard our customers’ valuable data.

3Play Media & Caption Security

3Play Media has comprehensive security policies and procedures. Some of our goals include:

  • Ensure that customer data is encrypted and inaccessible to other customers and the public.
  • Ensure that customer data is accessible to 3Play Media staff only to the extent necessary to perform the required work.
  • Prevent loss or corruption of customer data.
  • Ensure attack preparedness and responsiveness in the event of a breach.
  • Provide timely notifications in the event of downtime.

Our Security Policies and Procedures also cover data storage, HIPPA, data collection, and governance procedures.

How We Perform Security Assessments

3Play manages a single, consolidated platform, with state-of-the-art cloud architecture, and industry-best security from Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hosting, where customer data is stored.

3Play Media underwent a Systems and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2) Type 2 Security Compliance Certification audit, an in-depth, third-party security assessment that offers customers peace of mind regarding 3Play Media’s security practices.

SOC 2 is a voluntary compliance standard developed by the American Institute of CPAs that evaluates a company’s ability to securely manage the data it collects and uses during business operations. 3Play implements some custom policies, procedures, and controls that don’t appear in the stock SOC 2 because we are responding to our particular security and threat situation in a risk-driven way. Some of those controls and approaches already refer directly to or incorporate the strategies of other well-known infosec standards, including ISO 27005, NIST SP 800-63B, NIST SP 800-88, and other ISO or NIST elements.

Our SOC 2 audit report is a 90-page document that describes our environment and protections at a high level and details our auditor’s assessment of our controls to meet the SOC 2 assessment framework for the Security trust services criteria:

  • Information and systems are protected against unauthorized access, unauthorized disclosure of information, and damage to systems that could compromise the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of information or systems and affect the entity’s ability to meet its objectives.

By undergoing a SOC 2 audit report, we demonstrate that we can meet the security criteria that our customers want and need. With this confirmation, customers can share their data for processing with 3Play Media in confidence.

1. Ensures a thorough security assessment.

SOC2 risk management considers both inherent and residual risk, and mitigation strategies using a range of policies, protections, controls, and procedures. 3Play Media has implemented over two dozen policies and almost a hundred controls as part of SOC2 compliance. These mechanisms undergo a rigorous external audit. This provides greater diligence than 3Play Media would see in any individual customer inquiry.

2. Provides transparent and updated analysis.

3Play Media is committed to the SOC2 process and framework. SOC2 audit reports are valid for 12 months, which means we’re continuously prioritizing focus on infosec requirements our enterprise customers and the market will need to see addressed in future assessments.

3. Delivers a robust assessment while saving time and money.

SOC2 audit reports save you time by modernizing, streamlining, and standardizing inefficient evaluation processes. You’ll have rapid access and will avoid the complexity and cost associated with bespoke security assessments that typically cover only a fraction of what SOC 2 covers.

Information Security (Infosec) Packet

In addition to SOC 2, we provide customers with an information security (InfoSec) packet available upon the customer’s request. It contains a selection of our most requested documents for security, privacy, and third-party risk assessments.

The Infosec packet aims to answer most of our customer’s security-related inquiries. It contains information such as:

  • Our security policies and procedures (SPP)
  • Our latest business continuity and disaster recovery plan (BCP/DRP)
  • A high-level visual overview of our architecture
  • Vendor security assessment reports
  • Additional security-related reports and certifications
