How to Add Closed Captions to MS Stream Videos
Microsoft Stream is a cloud-based video platform designed for businesses to publish, share, and discover video with colleagues. It’s great for internal communications, video announcements, and corporate eLearning.
MS Stream was released in 2016 with the intention to eventually merge with Office 365 video. Like Office 365, Stream allows users to upload closed captions and subtitle tracks to videos.
Step 1 – Submit Your Video for Transcription
Log into your 3Play Media account. From the Upload tab at the top of the screen, select From Computer.
Alternatively, select From Links and submit the public URL of your Stream video. Choose your video and follow the onscreen prompts to specify turnaround.
You’ll receive an email when your video has been transcribed.
Step 2 – Download Your Captions in WebVTT Format
Go to the My Files page in your 3Play Media account and select your recording.
Click on Download and select the WebVTT format under Web Caption Formats. Save the closed caption file to your computer.
Step 3 – Upload Caption File to Video on Stream
Log into your MS Stream account and locate the video you want captioned under My content > My videos.
Click on the video.
Locate the ellipse button in the bottom-right under the video. Click that button and select Edit.
In the editing screen, click Upload caption file.
Drag and drop your WebVTT caption file onto this screen, or click select a WebVTT file and locate your caption file. Click OK.
Your caption file should display as uploaded.
Make sure to click Apply changes up at the top of the screen to save your video.
And you’re done! Viewers of your video can now toggle closed captions on or off at will. Enjoy!
