GMU’s Assistive Technology Initiative: The Highs, Lows, and “I Don’t Knows” of our ADA Title II Efforts

Korey Singleton is the Deputy ADA Coordinator for Accessibility and Manager of George Mason’s Assistive Technology Initiative (ATI). The ATI, operating under the Office of Access, Compliance, and Community, is tasked with developing and implementing Mason’s plan for digital access. Prior to joining Mason in 2008, Korey spent 8 years working with the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, supporting the assistive technology and accessibility needs of individuals with visual impairments. 

Kristine has served George Mason University for more than 25 years in various roles within the field of Assistive Technology. She is currently the IT Accessibility Coordinator for Mason’s Assistive Technology Initiative, where she oversees efforts to ensure that all university websites and applications are accessible to individuals with disabilities. She provides training on web accessibility, conducts accessibility reviews, and works with web developers and content managers to promote the integration of accessible design into the university’s web presence. Kristine also serves on the Architectural Standards Review Board, which reviews technology purchases. Her role on the ASRB is to assess compliance with accessibility standards. She holds a Master’s degree in Assistive/Special Education Technology and a Ph.D. in Special Education, specializing in disability policy and assistive technology.

Robert Starr is the Accessible Media Coordinator at George Mason University. He specializes in digital accessibility, with primary responsibilities in document remediation and video captioning.
