“There are several points as to why working with 3Play thrills me. First of all, I spent the majority of my life with a grandmother who was hard of hearing, and captions were her lifeline to accessing televised content. I know the importance of the work that we do at 3Play.

Having a deep love for languages, I’ve spent many years as an English teacher to students of foreign languages. Just as I was motivated to help my students relay their thoughts in a different language, I find the act of translating spoken words to a textual form extremely interesting. There’s a bit of an art and challenge to it, and I find that rewarding.

“While I am also a part-time musician, I have relied on 3Play as my primary source of income since 2016. I started as a transcriptionist, and in 2019, I began writing audio descriptions. “When I first started working as a contract editor at 3Play, I was between jobs and in desperate need of income. My background was primarily in insurance claims, along with some clerical and transcription experience. However, I had never done any captioning work. There was a learning curve, but the training and development support I received from the 3Play team and senior editors gave me all the tools I needed to further develop my skills.

I quickly fell in love with the work I was doing and jumped at the opportunity to pursue it further. I’m always learning new things and keeping my brain active, which is very important to me as I get older. I also love that the work I’m doing matters and is helpful to people who rely on captions. And it goes without saying that the flexibility of a work schedule I can choose is HUGE when it comes to balancing home and work life.
