The Situation

Mary Kay Inc. produces educational, training, motivational, and recognition content for its U.S. independent salesforce. It hosts videos on Brightcove then publishes it to the independent sales force using an online video lounge, a closed Facebook group and to consumers via In the beginning, Mary Kay included closed captioning in the VHS and DVD materials offered to the salesforce. As technology started to evolve, the company worked with a single-person captioning vendor and quickly found the many captioning formats difficult to use, and resulted in an ineffective trial and error process to find the formats that would work. Also, a percentage of the Mary Kay independent salesforce are native Spanish speakers. It was important to provide accurate captions in both Spanish and English to ensure all independent salesforce had access to the same high-quality training materials.

The Approach

Mary Kay outlined its need for the right vendor: ADA compliant, seamless integration, dedicated support and agility. After a review process, 3Play Media became the preferred vendor because of its approach to support the needs of customers and its seamless integration with Brightcove which automates the captioning process. Mary Kay simply tags 3Play Media in their Brightcove account when videos are ready for captioning. The captioned videos will then automatically postback to the Brightcove account once complete.

The Results

Because of the seamless integration, Mary Kay is able to produce content in less time with less errors. In addition, the ability to post content to multiple platforms has allowed users to decide where they want to receive their content. This has resulted in an increase in platforms that have not seen as much activity due to limited availability.
