If you produce video in languages other than English, finding a captioning solution that offers both accuracy and reliability may seem challenging.

At 3Play Media, we make it just as easy to caption videos in foreign languages as we do with videos in English.

If you’re familiar with our captioning and transcription services, then you know how seamless and intuitive our process is. If you’re new to who we are, no worries! We’ll break down how simple it is to caption videos in foreign languages with a 3Play account.

Getting Your File Ready for Captioning

When you sign up with 3Play, you have access to the Account System. It’s an online system where you can manage files, upload or download files, set up billing, and much more.

Similarly to English files, foreign language files will need to be uploaded for captioning. Before uploading your file, we recommend updating your “Other Language Transcription Settings” in the settings tab at the top right corner of the Account System. This allows you to choose how you would like your captions to show in your file, as well as the ability to upload a cheat sheet.

Other Language Transcription settings allow users to customize:

  • Dialogue Style: choose how you want the dialogue displayed in your file
  • Spoken Audio: choose whether you want to caption all spoken dialogue
  • On-Screen Text: choose whether you want to caption all text shown on-screen between square brackets “[…]”
  • Sound Effects: Choose to include all relevant sound effects between square brackets “[…]”
  • Speaker ID: choose to label speakers by first name, first and last name, number, or by gender

You can even upload a cheat sheet to help your transcriptionist create the most accurate captions possible. Simply submit a glossary of terms with the most relevant information for your file.

Once your changes have been made to Other Language Transcription Settings, be sure to click Save Changes before leaving the page.

Uploading Your Foreign Language File for Captioning

Next, it’s time to upload your file. Select Upload Media on the navigation bar at the top. You’ll be prompted to a display where you can choose which files you want to be captioned. You can choose transcription and captioning in select languages offered by 3Play.
