Twitter doesn't have any feature that allows closed captions, so you instead must encode or "burn" captions into the video itself. This will create open captions -- captions that play over the video and cannot be turned off. This can easily be done using 3Play Media's captioning services.
Keep in mind that Twitter only supports MOV and MP4 video files and that Twitter will not allow you to post more than 2 minutes and 20 seconds of video.
Step 1 – Transcribe Video or Align Transcripts
Log into your 3Play Media account.
From the Upload tab at the top of the screen, select From Computer, From Links, From Linked Account, or Cloud Stonge depending on where your video lives. Choose your video, and follow the onscreen prompts.
If you already have a transcript...
If your video already has a transcript, then you can align that transcript with the video to create open captions.
After uploading your video, select Alignment in Options and follow the on-screen prompts.
NOTE: If you want to create open captions for an MOV or MP4 video you've already transcribed in your 3Play Media account, simply click on the file, go to Order > Caption Encoding and select Source w/ Open Captions. Click Next and follow the on-screen prompts. After your video is done processing, move on to Step 3.
If you do NOT have a transcript...
You will need to order transcription for open captions.
Upload your video, and select English Transcription and Captioning in Options and follow the on-screen prompts.
You'll receive an email when your video has been transcribed.
Step 2 – Order Open Captions
Once your video transcript is ready, click on the file, go to Order > Caption Encoding and select Source w/ Open Captions. Click Next and follow the on-screen prompts.
You'll receive an email when you caption encoded video is ready to download.
Step 3 – Post Your Captioned Video on Twitter
When your caption-encoded video is ready, go to the My Files page in your 3Play Media account, select Caption Encodings, and click Download next to your file.
Go to your Twitter profile and click on the Tweet button at the top right.
Click on the icon at the bottom left of the Tweet window, which says Add photos and video when you hover over it, and select your open-captioned video file.
Select the duration of your video (maximum 2 minutes 20 seconds). Click Done.
You can now add text and tweet your video with open captions!
How to Add Subtitles to Twitter Videos
If you want to add subtitles for other languages, submit your video for translation after it's been transcribed.
In your 3Play Media account, click on your video file under My Files.
Select Order > Translation.
Choose the language you want for your subtitles, as well as the style of translation.
Once your translation is completed, go to Translations under My Files, follow instructions from Step 2 above to encode subtitles into your video, then follow Step 3 to post your video to Twitter.
