Video Translation and Subtitling

Video translation made easy

After your video or audio files have been transcribed (or transcripts aligned), we make it easy to translate them into many different languages. Our translation services are seamlessly integrated with our captioning and transcription services. That means you can request translations, monitor job status, and download translated transcripts and multilingual video subtitles directly from your 3Play Media account. Our interactive transcript, captions plugin, and other video plugins are also integrated with the translation process and support multiple languages.

How it Works

The first step is to upload your videos for transcription or automatic transcript alignment. You also need to complete an online translation profile that provides context around your content and communicates to your translator what your business is about, the voice of your brand, and the style in which you’d like to communicate to customers. It’s often helpful to provide a glossary of terms.

After your videos have been transcribed you can initiate translations with a click of a button. After your translations have been processed, you can download transcripts and multilingual subtitles in a variety of formats (see below). You can also publish interactive video plugins with complete support for all the languages that you processed.

Output Formats for Multilingual Transcripts and Subtitles

After your files have been translated, you can instantly download translated transcripts and subtitles in a variety of formats. Subtitle formats include DFXP (for Adobe Flash), multilingual DFXP, SRT, SCC for iOS, QuickText (for QuickTime), RealText (for Real Media), iTunes, SBV (for YouTube), Adobe Encore, SMI or SAMI (for Windows Media), WMP.TXT (also for Windows Media), STL (for DVD Studio Pro) and Captionate. Transcript formats include plain text, Word Doc, HTML, JSON, and XML. We can also build custom translation formats.

Translation Process and Quality

Translations are always done by professional linguists that accurately capture the cultural nuances of your video content. Linguists have area-specific expertise across a wide range of topics, including marketing, technology, healthcare, finance, government and education. Our translations are not word for word or literal – they read as if they were written in the target language, and are translated in context against the actual video. Depending on the target language, a translation may require more characters than the English source. Our translation process accounts for this effect – known as word swell – in order to accurately preserve synchronization of the subtitles. Our highest priority is to ensure that your message reaches your audience accurately and effectively in any market and any culture.

When you initiate a translation request you can choose from two quality levels depending on your needs.

  • Standard: Accurate translation by a native speaker
  • Pro: Professional translation for formal business use that includes detailed attention to tone, subject, and meaning

Turnaround and Job Status

Most translations are completed within 24 hours. However, turnaround times vary depending on the duration, difficulty, and target language. When you initiate a translation you can see the estimated delivery date for each file. You can also track the job status. The turnaround time gets updated as your file moves through the translation process and you may see periodic changes to your estimated delivery date.

If you have a large archive or recurring work, please contact us and we will develop a schedule that suits your needs.
