Join Faces Behind the Screen and #SignYourThanks
Updated: November 25, 2019
This Thanksgiving, we are challenging you to join 3Play Media and Faces Behind the Screen to #SignYourThanks!
Why should you participate in this challenge? The goal of this campaign is to express gratitude and offer support for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. When you #SignYourThanks, it’s a chance to raise awareness for accessibility and accessible communication. Plus, it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn some American Sign Language.Ready to participate in #SignYourThanks? Here’s how:
How to #SignYourThanks
- Take a video of your or your friends signing the phrase “I’m thankful for” plus a word or phrase of your choice in American Sign Language.
- Upload your video to social media using #SignYourThanks.
- Be sure to tag Faces Behind the Screen so that we can see your posts! You can tag us @faces_screen on Twitter and @facesbehindthescreen on Facebook and Instagram.
- Challenge and tag 3 other friends to also sign what they are thankful for.
What if I Don’t Know American Sign Language?
Be sure to pay close attention to how each word is signed. Sign language isn’t just about using your hands, it also incorporates your arms and facial expressions.
Raising Awareness for Greater Accessibility
70 million people around the world use sign language to communicate.
Sign language is different from country to country – some countries share similar sign language but with their own dialect.
Around the world, there are more than 360 million people who have some degree of hearing loss. As we continue to become a more interconnected world – thanks to the internet – it has become ever more important to ensure that the internet is accessible for all.
At Faces Behind the Screen, our aim is to connect the world with stories from the deaf, hard of hearing, blind, and low vision community to offer a new perspective and shatter common stigmas and preconceived notions.
We also want to raise greater awareness for a more accessible web. The majority of websites are not accessible, let’s work to change that!
